In the past, I’ve always put together my own off-the-bike training programs. I’ve been hesitant to trust anyone else, and I felt like a coach would be more hassle than they were worth, especially if we didn’t exactly agree with training methods. I know my body, I know the demands of the sport, and I felt that I didn’t need or want help.
But a few months ago I did a podcast with @thrashmotoco and got along so well with him I thought I’d give things a try. We saw eye to eye on almost everything, and he suggested tweaks and methods I’d never considered – while still being respectful of my experience in the sport, and allowing me the flexibility to modify things as needed. Especially with a busy race calendar, work, and the million other things I’m constantly juggling, having someone else doing some of the thinking for me helps me relieve some of my mental load.

Taking on an event like the Score Baja 1000 in the Ironman class requires the participant to be in peak physical and mental condition come race day if he or she is to even stand a chance of a finish. 1 year prior to the event, I was not in peak condition, far from it. Enter Steve McGill @Thrashmotoco as my personal trainer/ fitness coach. Steve mapped out a 1 year plan for me and took the time to ensure I was executing the plan properly throughout the entire year. Come race day, I was in peak physical and mental condition and we got the Ironman finish!!! I highly recommend Steve as fitness coach if you are seriously looking to up your game. Thrash helped me get back to riding and racing after my ACL surgery. Having him in my corner kept me motivated and on track with time efficient, pointed work outs.
